About us

Hi I'm John Graham, and I run The Sauna Float based in Geraldine, New Zealand’s first horse float sauna. I've transformed a classic, New Zealand-made horse float into a unique Sauna you'll find nowhere else. I offer both community and private sauna sessions paired with invigorating cold hydrotherapy.

My aim is simple: to nurture a local sauna culture that enhances all aspects of health and well being.

Connection, Community
& Healing

Once a rugby player in New Zealand and England, my journey into the world of saunas began due to injuries that led me to seek pain relief. I stumbled upon a sauna at a not-so-local pool and was amazed by its benefits.

Sauna began to serve as so much more than just a recovery regimen - I found connection, community, and joy in the conversations shared and the people I met. Because of this, I knew I had to set out on my own journey to create a sauna culture for my community. I want to share the benefits sauna can bring to peoples lives, not only physical, but mental, and emotional.

Enjoy the warmth of a wood-fired sauna at The Sauna Float, soaking in 80-90 degrees for 5 to 15 minutes based on your comfort.

Sauna rounds include a steam infusion with essential oils, creating a relaxing aroma or as the Finnish say “Löyly”.

Experience the invigorating chill of our cold waterfall shower, before returning to the soothing sauna warmth.

Relax between heat and cold sessions, bond with friends, enjoy nature, and appreciate dedicating time to self-care.

The Benefits of Contrast Therapy

Contrast therapy, alternating between heat and cold, offers a natural way to support overall health and well-being. It strengthens the immune system by increasing white blood cell activity and improving lymphatic drainage, helping the body fight off illness and stress. For muscle recovery, it boosts circulation, reduces inflammation, and helps clear out metabolic waste. It also supports heart health by improving blood flow, training blood vessels to function more efficiently, and potentially lowering blood pressure. The benefits extend to the lungs as well, enhancing oxygen exchange, strengthening breathing muscles, and reducing airway inflammation.

Beyond the physical benefits, contrast therapy promotes relaxation by lowering stress hormones, easing muscle tension, and boosting feel good chemicals like endorphins and serotonin. It’s also great for the skin, heat increases circulation and promotes cell renewal, while cold tightens pores, reduces puffiness, and improves elasticity. On top of it all, the hot and cold contrast naturally lifts your mood, leaving you feeling refreshed, balanced, and energized.
